Holiday: "Victorian Tea at the Mansion" — Norwalk, CT

Tea lovers, history buffs, and those looking for a unique experience will delight in attending "The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum’s" annual "Victorian Tea" on Sunday, November 9th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This victorian-era, national historic landmark, celebrates the great afternoon teatime tradition, said to have been started by the Duchess of Bedford, one of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting.

Come enjoy a traditional tea surrounded by unparalleled Gilded Age interiors and furniture and the splendor of the most magnificent Mansion in Connecticut. This family-friendly event features a formal English tea in the Mansion’s Rotunda, including a wide selection of desserts, sandwiches, and the traditional scones and cream, all catered by a tea ceremony expert. Music and entertainment will also be featured. This event is $35. for members and $45. for non-members.

"Gourmet Expo & Wine Tasting" — Norwalk, CT

The 6th Annual "Gourmet Expo & Wine Tasting" in support of "Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County’s Women Build Program" takes place on November 14th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The evening features delicious treats prepared by local chefs and a wine tasting provided by Grand Harvest Wines with 20% of wine sales donated to Women Build. Restaurants include A Dash of Salt, Black Rock Yacht Club, Collyer Catering, Cuatro Hermanos, Cucina Casalinga, Garden Catering, Norm Bloom & Sons, Taco Loco, The Red Hen, Thinscotti, and more. Women Build encourages and empowers women to make a difference in their community by raising funding for and actually building a home that will help a deserving, low-wage mother and her family. Tickets are $60 at the door.

Holiday Boutique: "The Junior League's Enchanted Forest" — Greenwich, CT

The Junior League of Greenwich's "Enchanted Forest" will take place November 16th through 18th at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich, CT from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

A “Sneak Peek to Boutique” will be held on Friday evening, November 16th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Bring your friends and shop early for the holidays. Event includes: complimentary admission, food, entertainment, and a cash bar.

This popular Greenwich weekend event includes long-standing traditions such as decorated trees and gingerbread houses to bid on, gingerbread workshops, an enchanting playland with bouncy castles, other fun activities, santa’s workshop, an extensive holiday boutique, a wide range of complimentary children’s entertainment, breakfast with santa, and a gala evening party with a silent auction, delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, dinner, and a live band for dancing.

Gingerbread Workshops are held Saturday, November 17th at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 3:00 pm. Santa's Breakfast will be held on Sunday, November 18th at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 3:00 pm. The après ski gala event of the year, "Snowed In for the Holidays" will be held on Saturday, November 17th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

The Enchanted Forest is a fundraising event in support of the mission and projects of the Junior League of Greenwich. This year's theme "Snowed in for the Holidays" celebrates the wonder of winter time, and promises to be a memorable weekend for families, friends, and community members to kick off the holiday season.

November 22 — 23, 2014

Holiday: "UBS Parade Spectacular" — Stamford, CT

On Sunday, November 23rd at noon, catch the "UBS Parade Spectacular", Stamford's annual holiday balloon parade presented by "Stamford Town Center" featuring 24 giant helium balloons floating through Stamford Downtown. Expect to see Bob the Builder, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, Elmo, Miss Piggy, Mr. Potato Head, Odie, Oscar the Grouch and Kermit flying high. In addition, award-winning marching bands from all over Connecticut and New York perform. Step off is at noon from Summer to Broad, to Atlantic streets. On Saturday, November 22nd is a backstage look at the parade. Watch the giant helium balloons inflate and come to life from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Summer and Hoyt Streets.

November 22, 2014 — January 4, 2015

Holiday: "Christmas at the Mansions" — Newport, RI

The glitter of gold and the sparkle of silver will dazzle you as you tour three magnificent mansions decked out in Yuletide finery. Music, tours, and spectacular decorations highlight the celebration of Christmas at the Newport Mansions. Make holiday memories with your family by visiting The Breakers, The Elms, and the Marble House this holiday season.

All three houses will be decorated and open daily for tours from Saturday, November 22nd through Sunday, January 4th. The Breakers opens daily at 9:00 am. The Elms and Marble House opens at 10:00 am. The last tour admission at all three houses is at 4:00 pm and at 3:00 pm on Christmas Eve. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

"Holiday Evenings" at "The Breakers" are Saturdays, November 29th, December 6th, 13th, and 27th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. "Holiday Evening Duet" at "The Elms" and "Marble House" is Saturday, December 20th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Admission for members is $30 in advance, $35 day of event and for non-members $35 in advance, $45 day of event. Children ages 6 to 17 are $10. Advance purchase price tickets for Holiday Evenings are available online until midnight on the previous day. On the day of the event, if tickets are still available, they may be purchased in person at the Preservation Society or the Breakers.

A "Winter Passport Ticket" providing daytime admission to all three houses is $28 for adults, $9 for children 6 to 17. Children under 6 are admitted free. Regular Newport Mansions daytime tour tickets remain valid through the Christmas season as well.

Visit with Santa Claus. Bring your children and your camera. Eggnog and cookies will be served. Included in regular daytime admission on Sundays, December 7th, 14th, and 21st from noon to 3:00 pm.

A "Holiday Dinner Dance" at The Breakers takes place on Saturday, December 20th at 7:00 pm. Ring in the season at the holiday dinner dance in the Great Hall. Tickets on sale in late 2014.

"Holiday Lights" — New Canaan, CT

From Thanksgiving, November 27th to mid January, the trees in downtown New Canaan are illuminated with a beautiful array of lights. Over 50 trees are decorated with over 400 strands of lights. It takes over 150 man hours to prep and maintain the lights and additional funds to replace the bulbs every year. The downtown "Holiday Lights" reflect the warmth of the holiday season. "Holiday Exhibit at the Mansion" — Norwalk, CT

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum" starts the Holiday Season with an exhibit that traces the development of holiday traditions during the Victorian era in America. The exhibit runs on November 28th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Visitors will see the mansions evolution from 1850 to the 1900s, from small tabletop tree with edibles and handmade ornaments, to lavishly embellished trees that stood on the floor and almost reached the ceiling. The Museum will also explore the Mansion during the 1930s, and the decorations and gift-giving traditions during Florence Mathews' era. Admission is $10. for adults, $8. for Seniors, and $6. for ages 8 to 18.

"Greenwich Reindeer Festival" & "Santa's Workshop" — Greenwich, CT

A town of Greenwich tradition continues for the fifth year on Friday, November 28th to Wednesday, December 24th. Starting at the end of November until Christmas Eve, Santa's live reindeer will be in town. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Blitzen will be available in the Greenwich downtown area at "McArdle's Florist & Garden Center" for all to enjoy. Feed the reindeer daily. Bring your child for a magical moment they'll remember forever. Pets are also welcome.

At approximately 2:00 pm Santa and his reindeer ride down Greenwich Avenue to kick off the holiday season. All are invited to "McArdle's Florist & Garden Center" for holiday refreshments and photos with Santa as they officially open the 5th annual "Greenwich Reindeer Festival & Santa's Workshop". Photos with Santa hours are Monday to Friday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Photo packages with Santa begin at $29.99.

Auto Show: "Caffeine & Carburetors" — New Canaan, CT

"Caffeine & Carburetors" is a gathering of automotive enthusiasts. They meet at "Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee" in New Canaan, CT six times year to enjoy cars, trucks, and motorcycles and share them with like-minded gear heads, friends, and family in and around Connecticut and New York. Although the group has a tendency to lean towards sports cars, the emphasis is on foreign sports cars. Each gathering falls on a Sunday and begins at 8:00 am. Gatherings are over a cup of coffee, then followed by a leisurely drive through the countryside.

Tour: "Philip Johnson Glass House Season" — New Canaan, CT

"The Philip Johnson Glass House", a National Trust Historic Site, offers its 49 acre campus as a catalyst for the preservation of modern architecture, landscape and art, honoring the legacy of Philip Johnson (1906 to 2005) and David Whitney (1939 to 2005).

The "2014 Glass House Tour Season" runs between May 1st and November 30th (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Tour options include: Pure Glass House Tours, Site Tours, Extended Tours, Self Guided Tours, Private Tours, and Group Tours. The Glass House now offers "AIA Continuing Education" learning units on the following tours: Site, Focus, and Extended with two units per tour.

Advance reservations are required. Tours of the "Glass House" are recommended for adults and children ages 10 and above based on tour content and duration. For the comfort and safety of all visitors, children must be at least six years of age to accompany adults on a Glass House tour.

Art Exhibition: "Vanishing Glass House" — New Canaan, CT

Coinciding with the 65th anniversary of the "Glass House" and its 2014 tour season, the "Glass House" presents Fujiko Nakaya's exhibit called "Veil". The "Glass House" will be wrapped in a "veil of dense mist" that comes and goes. For approximately 10 to 15 minutes each hour, the "Glass House" will appear to vanish, only to return as the fog dissipates. Inside the structure, the sense of being outdoors will be temporarily suspended during the misty spells. This is the first site-specific artist project to engage the iconic "Glass House" itself. Japanese artist, Nakaya produces many fog sculptures and environments internationally. On view May 1 to November 30, 2014.

Annual November Event — TBA

"Holiday Market at Waveny House" — New Canaan, CT

The annual "Holiday Market" is coming to the "Waveny House" in New Canaan, CT in November (dates and times: TBA). Forty new and returning vendors from all around the area will display their wares in this fun, festive, shopping event. Since its inception, the YWL has given out over $1 million in grants. Vendors at the Holiday Market give a portion of their proceeds to the Giving Fund.

The Preview Party includes cocktails, delicious appetizers and desserts, a first chance to shop with the vendors, and free re-admittance to the Market the following day. Market Day tickets are are only available at the door. All proceeds from the event go to the YWL's Giving Fund which makes charitable grants to area nonprofits in need.

Holiday: "Gingerbread Houses & Cocktails for a Cause" — Darien, CT

The Annual "Gingerbread Houses and Cocktails for a Cause" usually takes place in November at the Country Club of Darien. Enjoy an evening of good cheer. You will get a fully-assembled gingerbread house to decorate, while sipping wine, enjoying a light dinner buffet, and chatting with friends. This is a great opportunity to get your girlfriends together before the rush of the holiday season. Tables of eight are available. The cost is usually $100 per person. All proceeds go to The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education.
