"Spring Art Exhibition" — Ridgefield, CT

The Ridgefield Guild of Artists 2014 "Spring Exhibition" explores the idea of re-conceptualizing, re-purposing, and re-imagining as a visual art form. This invitational show will feature artists who use their materials in unique and unexpected ways to express their personal vision. Some artists use recycled materials, some use their chosen medium until it evolves into something altogether different. Others remake, deconstruct, expand, and transform. Some artists surprise and delight the viewer with their installations, but be assured that all share their vision with resourcefulness, wit, and wisdom.

The art exhibition will run through April 27th.

Workshop: "Historic Places Q&A" — New Canaan, CT

A panel and Q & A discussion will be presented by the "New Canaan Historical Society", the "New Canaan Preservation Alliance", and office of the "First Selectman" on Thursday, April 3rd. The panelists will discuss both the National and the Connecticut Register of Historic Places.

The panelists include: Stacey Vairo from the CT Dept. of Economic & Community Development, State Historic Preservation Office, Wes Haynes from the CT Trust for Historic Preservation, Anita Mielert from CT Preservation Action, and Tod Bryant from Heritage Resources. "Art of Design" — Greenwich Country Club — Greenwich, CT

The Junior League "Art Exhibition" — Fairfield, CT

The 22nd Annual "Art Show" sponsored by The Junior League of Fairfield County takes place on on Friday, April 4th to Sunday, April 6th from 10 am to 5 pm daily at the Burr Homestead in Fairfield, CT.

This year's theme is “Beautify Your Home, Better Our Community". The show features traditional paintings, contemporary abstract works, photographs, prints, drawings, and sculptures by over 100 Northeast artists. Art-inspired mantel decorations provided by florists, designers, and home décor stores will dress up the Burr. Cocktail parties, children's activities, silhouette artists, musical entertainment, and more will take place over the three day event.

Tickets are $7. per person and valid for re-entry throughout the weekend. A "Curated Cocktail Party" on Friday, April 4th from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm is $95. per person (limited availability). An "Instructional Painting Demo" and "Cocktail Party" on Saturday, April 5th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm is $35. per person (limited availability). "High Point Market" — To the Trade

High Point Market, North Carolina

"High Point Market" is one of the largest home furnishings industry trade shows in the world. The market, open during the spring and fall, encompasses 180 buildings in the downtown showroom district of the city of High Point, North Carolina. It attracts more than 75,000 home design professionals each year. Market dates for 2014 are April 5-10 and October 18-23. Open to the trade only, the show runs six days, Saturday through Thursday. "Easter Egg Hunt" — New Canaan, CT

The "Young Women’s League of New Canaan" presents their "Easter Egg Hunt" at the Waveny House in New Canaan, CT on Saturday, April 5th. Festivities and Bake Sale begin at 9:30 am and the Egg Hunt begins at 10:40 am. The event is free and open to the public.

Children will delight in watching Mr. and Mrs. Bunny arrive on “Old Faithful”. In addition to the candy filled hunt, there will be a live Dixieland band, coffee and baked goods, face painting, bounce houses, and amazing balloon creations. 100% of all proceeds go to the Young Women’s League Giving Fund. In the event of inclement weather, the Easter Egg Hunt will take place on the same day at the New Canaan High School Gym, rain or snow.

"Birdhouse Auction Gala" — Wilton, CT

The 19th Annual "Project Return, Birdhouse Auction Gala" will take place on Saturday, April 5th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The event features silent and live auctions of original birdhouses, as well as bird-themed paintings, ceramics, furniture, and fine jewelry. A light dinner and delicious desserts will be served with beverages from Tito's Handmade Vodka. Then kick up your dancing shoes to the music of the ever-popular DNR Band and dance the night away to the vintage sounds of the 60's and 70's.

New in 2014: "Online Auction Bidding". Bidding is now open and will end on April 4th (the day before the Auction). The top on-line bids will be the starting bid and then continues via normal bidding on the evening of April 5th. "Kids Culinary Cooking Classes" — CT

"Stew Leonard's" offers on-going cooking classes for children between the ages of five and 12 years old. Children receive hands-on instruction in preparing various foods, as well as learning about the importance of measuring, cooperation, and food safety. "Sustainable Art Exhibition" — New Canaan, CT

Carriage Barn Arts Center at Waveny Park

2014 marks the 25th annual "Spectrum Sustainable Art Show" at the "Carriage Barn Arts Center" to support "The New Canaan Society for the Arts". This year, the focus of the exhibition will be on artwork that incorporates or highlights natural or recycled materials. The Carriage Barn is a perfect example of a sustainable space that has been adaptively reused within a landscape (Waveny Park designed by Olmsted) that has also been preserved as open green space. This provides the ideal environment for exhibiting artworks using found materials in novel and experimental ways.

The exhibition runs through April 12th. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and Sundays 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Entrance to the gallery is free and all exhibitions are open to the public. The Center’s activities are sponsored by the New Canaan Society for the Arts (NCSA), a member-supported, non-profit cultural organization.

On Thursday, April 10th at 7 pm is a lecture on "Sustainable Design" by Mark Robbins. $10 for members; $15 for non-members. On Sunday, April 6th from 2 pm to 3:30 pm is “Trash + Fashion = TRASHION” a children’s workshop for ages 8-12. Space is limited and reservations are required. $15 for members, $20 for non-members.

Lecture: "New York Botanical Garden" — Greenwich, CT

The "Greenwich Land Trust" will be presenting a lecture with "The New York Botanical Garden's" Brian Sullivan discussing his newly opened "Native Plant Garden". This beautiful 3.5 acre garden showcases flora native to the region in an innovative style. Plants selected for their ecological as well as their aesthetic value create an immersive environment teaming with wildlife. Learn about the story of the garden's design and installation, and how you can introduce a palette of beautiful plants compatible with local landscapes to your home garden.

"Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza" — Norwalk, CT

Stew Leonard’s Executive Kitchen is hosting a "Bunny Breakfast" with two seating times offered at 9:00 am and 10:00 am on Saturday, April 5th. Their chefs will offer a breakfast of seasonal fruit, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, French Toast Sticks with syrup, assorted bagels, doughnut holes, and juice & coffee. Each child will receive a complimentary copy of "Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim", Easter coloring sheets, and will be able to take a photo with the Easter Bunny. Reservations for the Bunny Breakfast must be made in advance. Adults and children age 12 and over are $9.99 each and children age 11 and under are $7.99 each.

Stew Leonard’s Norwalk is hosting an "Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza" from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Tuesday, April 8th. Children age 9 and under will be given a map of Stew Leonard’s and a bag to collect eggs from costumed characters including Clover the Cow, Cynthia Chick, and Daphne Duck. Each egg contains prizes ranging from candy and stickers to DVDs. One lucky child will win the Egg Hunt’s top prize: a $250. gift card to Toys “R” Us. Lecture Series: "Outspoken Author, Alfie Kohn" — Greenwich, CT

Are we raising a generation of spoiled and over-protected narcissists? Alfie Kohn, author of the new book "The Myth of the Spoiled Child" and education provocateur, comes to Greenwich at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 9th at Temple Sholom.

The latest in the "Whitby School Lecture Series", Mr. Kohn addresses that question with his usual outspokenness, humor, and research. 18th Annual "Egg-Stravaganza" — Fairfield, CT

Eggs-plore what’s hatching at the Connecticut Audubon Society's Center at Fairfield’s 18th annual “Egg-Stravaganza” on Saturday, April 12th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 2:30 pm. The Fairfield Community "Easter Egg Hunt" — Fairfield, CT

Pre-school children to 3rd graders should bring their Easter Baskets to the South Pine Creek Soccer Field on Old Dam Road in Fairfield, CT on Saturday, April 12th for the Fairfield Community "Easter Egg Hunt". Food, Beer, Tours, & Family Fun: "Kick-Off Block Party" — Westport, CT

The "Westport Country Playhouse" will host their 2014 season "Kick-Off Block Party" featuring food, beer, tours, and family fun, on Saturday, April 12th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public: rain or shine.

The event offers a fun, party-like atmosphere with food trucks, activities for adults and kids, prizes, special ticket offers, and a look at the Playhouse’s backstage experience. "Children's Workshops" — Greenwich, CT

The "Greenwich Historical Society" is offering fun and imaginative art and history workshops for kids. Projects will be based on themes from their exhibition: "Great Estates of Greenwich" (also a book published by the Junior League of Greenwich). All workshop sessions run from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Vanderbilt Education Center. All ages are welcome. Members: $5 per day or $15 for the week, non-members: $8 per day or $25 for the week. Tuesday, April 15th Workshop: "Dream House" Greenwich became the ideal place to build during the Gilded Age. It still is. Kids will construct their very own dream houses out of cardboard boxes.

Wednesday, April 16th Workshop: "East Meets West"— Japanese Art techniques significantly influenced the work of the Cos Cob art colony. Kids will learn about Suni ink painting and compare the technique to traditional Western watercolors by creating their own works of art in each style.

Thursday, April 17th Workshop: "High Flyers" Enjoy an activity that’s synonymous with spring. Children will learn how to make and fly custom designed kites.

Friday April 18th Workshop: "Garden Arty" — Potatoes, lemons, apples, and celery are more than just delicious. They’re great for making stamps and creating works of art. Join in for this tasty project and take home one-of-a-kind place mats.

"Horse Show Competitions" — Darien, CT

The "Ox Ridge Hunt Club" holds a number of significant horse show competitions throughout the year. The Club is situated on thirty-seven acres, twenty-two of which consist of a beautiful front field. Ox Ridge has hosted a number of important, nationally recognized, horse shows over the years. The "Ox Ridge Charity Show" has an 82 year history featuring internationally famous riders in breathtaking exhibitions of show jumping at its very best, for five days in June each year.

Competitions are scheduled for April 19th, July 1st, July 15th (tentative), July 23rd, and July 27th. The annual "Charity Horse Show" and "Grand Prix" is held on June 10th through 15th. It attracts competitors from across the county and Europe. Please check their web sites for final dates and times.

"Cooking Class" — Darien, CT

Poaching, blanching and steaming are quick and healthy cooking techniques that use a boiling or simmering liquid to cook food. Learn the science behind these practices and how the food retains its flavor, color, and nutritional value. Class demonstration will explore each technique, discuss what is does, and detail the foods best suited to the approach. Learn to blanch (boil) and steam vegetables, poach chicken, and suggest how they form the basis for a variety of dishes. A class handout will include meat, vegetable and fruit dish recipes along with Cooks Tips for make-ahead, make-it-light, and freezing. Class ends with a group discussion and homework. Students will also receive a 10% discount for Cooks Nook in Norwalk. Prepayment for this class is required by 12:00pm on Thursday, April 17th. "Wine Class" — Greenwich, CT

"The Study Fine Wines & Spirits" will hold a wine class themed "Deeper into Tuscany" on Thursday, April 24th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. It features Janna Waite, one of the most informed, passionate, and dynamic wine educators that the school has had the pleasure of working with. She brings us all an evening under the "Tuscan Sun", featuring new favorites that go beyond Chianti Classico. Authentic antipasto will be served. $35 per person.

The Study is a boutique wine shop in the quaint Banksville neighborhood of Greenwich, CT. Owner and wine buyer, Katherine Stephens, is a former sommelier and manager of a star awarded restaurant in New York City. Her expertise is as a "Certified Wine Specialist". Her partner, Noah Goldberg is an accomplished musician. He may even be playing on the piano as you sit, read, taste wines, shop, and discover what you love. The shop pops bottles gratis every Friday and Saturday for your palate edification. This month will feature Easter and Seder dinner pairings.

Art Exhibition: “Machines, Gadgets, & Technology" Norwalk, CT

Maritime Garage Gallery, Norwalk, CT

Machines, gadgets, all things technology inspire the artwork of a new exhibit at the "Maritime Garage Gallery". The exhibit, entitled “Thingamabob”, will run through April 25th. The show features art that is in the eye of the mechanically inclined artists. The "Thingamabob" is a metaphor for the creative process and how artists feed one method into another when creating works of art. Some of the featured works in the exhibit highlight individual elements, while others feature multiple systems.

The "Maritime Garage Gallery" is part of the Parking Authority’s “Art in Parking Places Initiative", an effort to support art in public spaces making Norwalk a more vibrant destination. The gallery is free and open to the public from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

"Food, Wine & Beer Benefit" — Stamford, CT

On Friday, April 25th, "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society" (LLS) Connecticut Chapter will host "Hops & Grapes, Toasts & Tastes" for the fifth year at "Chelsea Piers" in Stamford, CT. The event runs from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Tickets are $75. each or $125. for two. VIP tickets are also available at $100. each or $175. for two and includes a LLS wristband, raffle ticket, and deluxe gift bag.

Local restaurants, bakeries, vineyards, and distributors will come together to showcase a selection of foods, fine wines, and beers to over 250 people throughout the Fairfield County area. Garden Exhibition: "Bartlett Arboretum& Gardens" — Stamford, CT

Please join "The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens " as they celebrate "Arbor Day" with "Mayor David Martin", "The Stamford Tree Foundation", "Bartlett Tree Experts", and students from the "Greenwich Education Group" on Friday, April 25th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. You are invited to take part in a special tree planting ceremony at 10:30 am with refreshments to follow. As part of the day's educational events, "Greenwich Education Group" students will be taught how to plant seedling trees which they will take home. "The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens" is open to the public every day of the year. The grounds are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Leashed dogs are welcomed on the property.

Exhibit: "The New Yorker"
Westport, CT

Between 1925 and 1989, sixteen New Yorker artists living in and around Westport-Weston produced a remarkable 761 covers for "The New Yorker Magazine".

The Westport Historical Society’s exhibit shares the covers and the story-behind-the-story focusing on the influence of The New Yorker’s idea man turned Art Editor, James Geraghty. Often with an element of wit, The New Yorker’s cover images mirrored the commuter lifestyle of its Connecticut-based artists.

The exhibit runs through April 26th. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturdays 12:00 to 4 pm.

Green Exhibition: "Earth Day Celebration" — Fairfield, CT

Fairfield’s annual "Earth Day Celebration" takes place on Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Learn about clean and renewable alternative energy choices, conserving our environment, organic and sustainable methods of gardening, and safe organic products and services. Experience food for thought cooking demos. Touch a life size replica of the Gustave Whitehead Aircraft. Recycle electronics, eyeglasses, cell phones, and clothing. Participate in a Q & A Session with our legislators on environmental issues (11:30 am to 12:30 pm). Enjoy free samples, music, storytelling, face painting, bingo, balloon animals, stamping and origami with recycled paper and natural dyes and paints, and other fun activities for the whole family. Fairfield CT Celebrates its "375th Anniversary" — Fairfield CT

The Fairfield Museum and History Center is presenting an ambitious series of exhibitions and programs to commemorate Fairfield’s 375th anniversary.

2014 Exhibitions include: "Creating Community — Exploring 375 Years of Our Past". This new, hands-on exhibition invites visitors to explore the history of Fairfield and its region for nearly 400 years.

"Fairfield’s Rockin’ Top Ten" through April 28th. Musician and historian Chris Frantz will curate an exhibition on the top ten musicians that have put Fairfield on the musical map.

"Growing Up in Fairfield — Memories and Milestones" through October 5th. The museum’s popular regional photography exhibition features iconic images of Fairfield with rare mementoes from high school days and a community wall of prom pictures from over the decades.

"Fairfield Back and Forth — Imagery by Artist Miggs Burroughs" through February 18th. Visitors will be mesmerized by the transition from 19th century photos to present-day images of Fairfield in this new lenticular photography show.

"Art Exhibition" — Greenwich, CT

“The Art of Lina Morelli” will be on display in the "Garden Café" at "Greenwich Hospital" through April 30th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm daily.

As an arts activist, Linda Morelli has been involved in many aspects of the Stamford, CT art scene for over twenty years. She was president of the "Loft Artists Association" and received three "City Arts Program Grants" to produce their annual "Open Studios" and "Performance Series".

Linda creates wood and metal assemblages including her signature wrapped metal hearts which are in over 100 private collections across the country. All works can be purchased by contacting the "Greenwich Art Society" at (203) 629-1533 between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday or by e-mailing admin@greenwichartsociety.org.
